Bacalar – Pueblo Magico (Magical Town) is truly a magical place to get away from it all. You will find it by traveling on the main hi-way south through the Yucatan Peninsula about half an hour before reaching the capital city of Chetumal. It is famous for being centrally located on the second largest body of fresh water in Mexico
The “lagoon of seven colors” is formed by springs from the underground rivers and cenotes where the water is naturally filtered clean. This warm, clear, and shallow water is ideal for water sports and swimming. It is surrounded by lush vegetation in a fascinating biodiversity of flora and fauna.
On the south end of town is the Cenote Azul, just a few hundred meters from the lagoon. They have an excellent restaurant there where you can enjoy a meal and/or go swimming. If you bring your own gear, you can also go scuba diving to explore this interesting formation.
Just off the main square in town is Fort San Felipe, built in 1729 by the Spanish to protect their shipping commerce of precious woods from pirates and later the British.
If you want to own a part of “Pueblo Magico”, let Century 21 show you a home or land or commercial property where the water is blue, blue, blue.
